AFROTC Det 220 Hall of Fame

Dear Purdue AFROTC Alumnus,

     Purdue University ROTC programs are some of the best in the country. They have been graduating outstanding leaders that have included General Officers, astronauts, business CEOs and many other notable professions. One of my responsibilities is to serve as the Air Force “facilitator” for the Purdue’s Tri-Service ROTC Hall of Fame program. That is why I’m writing to you today…we need your help! We are soliciting Air Force nominations for the Hall of Fame induction ceremony for next year (school year 2007-2008).
     The Purdue ROTC Hall of Fame was established in 1974 to recognize alumni of Purdue's Army ROTC who had distinguished themselves by exemplifying attributes of leadership, integrity, moral courage, and self-discipline. The Hall of Fame was expanded in August 1999 to include distinguished alumni of Purdue's Air Force and Navy ROTC programs. Over 150 former Purdue ROTC students are now members of this prestigious body! Their photos are prominently displayed on the Hall of Fame wall on the first floor of the Armory.
     Nominations are solicited annually and can be made by any individual with knowledge of a nominee's outstanding military and civilian contributions. For example, nominations by a wife or secretary are entirely acceptable. A nomination letter accompanied by a resume (recommend resume include military and civilian accomplishments) is required. Moreover, a black and white photograph may accompany the nomination but is not required. Nominees must also have received a commission as a result of enrollment in Purdue ROTC programs. Additionally, annual selections will be made from graduating classes that occurred at least 25 years prior to the nomination year. The Hall of Fame Committee reviews all the packages and bases their decision on the nominee’s service to the nation, to the community, and leadership involvement in the fields of business, government, education, or other professional areas.
     The deadline for nominations is 30 November 2007 with the induction ceremony to take place at the Armory during Gala Weekend in April 2008. Please mail nomination packages to the following address or send by email to det220@maxwell.af.mil:

       Col Michael A. Silver, USAF, Professor of Aerospace Studies
       Armory, Room 228
       812 Third St
       West Lafayette, IN 47907

    I know we have many alumni that are deserving of this recognition. If you know of someone that meets the criteria please nominate the individual or encourage some else to do so. The process is very simple but the end result of seeing a worthy alumni recognized extremely rewarding! I look forward to hearing from you. If you have questions, please call me at 765-494-2046/2042 or e-mail me at det220@maxwell.af.mil. Please stop and visit the Cadet Wing anytime your travels bring you back to Purdue.

Sincerely,
//SIGNED//
MICHAEL A. SILVER, Colonel USAF
