Project 3: Creative or Professional Project

Scenario
In this individual project, you will work on developing content for multimedia delivery (on the Web, CD-ROM, PowerPoint, etc.), with an eye for entertaining (with creative work) or informing (with research/documentation) an audience that you define.

Prompt
Working individually, develop existing or new content for a creative or professional multimedia project that can be showcased in your Web-based portfolio. Examples include interactive hypertext fiction or poetry with multimedia components, essays or research projects incorporating substantial multimedia components, newsletters or other publications, multimedia PowerPoint demonstrations on a selected topic, a digital film, photographic essay, or a Web site for a student club.

Steps in the Process

  1. Project Proposal: In this step, you'll prepare a 250-word description of your planned project. You should try to describe the project succinctly, outline the technology you'll use to present it, identify the audience for the project, and ask relevant questions. This step is due electronically as a file attachment in Word or PDF format on October 25 to blakesle@purdue.edu. (Note that there is no class meeting on that day.) (10% of project grade)

  2. Progress Report: Submit a 250-word itemized progress report that describes the work you have completed on your project thus far, outlines the work that remains to be done, and asks questions. As with Step 1, this step is due electronically as a file attachment in Word or PDF format. Submit Step 2 on or before November 15 to blakesle@purdue.edu. (10% of project grade)

  3. Presentation of Project: Your completed project should be presented with your Web-based portfolio project on December 6. (You will have the chance to do some user-testing prior to final submission.) You will submit a URL for your portfolio to me, and I will then review this project as part of my review of your portfolio. (80% of project grade)

Grading
This project counts as 30% of the course grade. You will need to complete all of the steps in the project (Steps 1-3) to receive credit. I will evaluate your individual project on the basis of its professionalism and/or creativity, its overall design, the quality of the content, your use of multimedia components, and how effectively you address the audience you have defined for youself.
