You have a dazzling array of useful sources, Morgan. Several that stand out to me as providing excellent and specific principles to ponder are

Hofmann, Patrick. “The Successes and Challenges of Visual Language.”

and the two Kostelnick et al. works.

I think one of your challenges will be to narrow your scope in the weeks ahead (you're seeing that there's so much out there to draw from!). I mentioned earlier the possibility of some analyses of a visual presentation like Al Gore's in An Inconvenient Truth. (He uses Keynote, by the way.) Perhaps it would useful to bring the terminologies you've collected to bear on one representative and interesting case. Could even be a 4Cs presentation, like Kathi Yancey's chair's talk of several years ago, which is online and in print, and there has been some commentary/discussion of it in the literature.

If you need my help narrowing things down, let me know . . .
