Medieval Time-Line Reference - A.D. 800-A.D. 1500
Old English Guides -- This site offers useful teaching tools for Old English including sound recordings of Beowulf, etc.
Medieval Academy of America - founded in 1925, the Medieval Academy is the largest organization in the world devoted to medieval studies.
Institute for Studies of Illuminated Manuscripts in Denmark - Books of Hours 1400-1530
Hell-on-Line - a comprehensive on-line collection of over 100 visions, tours and descriptions of the infernal otherworld from the cultures of the world: principally from the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Zoroastrian, Islamic and Jewish traditions from 2000 BCE to the present.
Codex Gigas - The Codex Gigas or the Devil’s Bible is a medieval manuscript at the National Library in Stockholm that is famous for two features. First, it is reputed to be the biggest surviving European manuscript. (Codex Gigas means ‘giant book’.) Secondly, it contains a large, full page portrait of the Devil. (This explains its alternative name.) This site contains a digitised version of every page of the manuscript as well as commentaries on its history, texts, script, initials and decoration.
