Overrated Underdogs - This balanced team is on track to win it all

Sitting pretty atop the points table with 20 points from 6 games are the 'Underdogs. The team name 'Underdogs clearly is a misnomer for this team that has the right mix to make Spring 2008 their season to win the BIG ONE.

The 'Dogs boast plenty of talent and spunk with Sachin in the lead role ably supported by several ex-Punjabi Pride team members from a few years back. They started the season without several members from their core group and still managed to win a close opening game against  Dheepang. Since then this team has been on a roll until last week.

Furthermore, the 'Underdogs are the only team to play in three different indoor leagues this semester. Will the glut of matches take a toll on this team or will it help them hit peak form as playoffs roll around, nobody knows..

In the batting department there are atleast 5 batsmen who have made major contributions through the first six games for the 'Dogs. Jagpreet and Sachin have found a purple patch and have accumulated runs by the boatload this season. Arjun Shah and Sukhdeep have made vital contributions with the bat that enabled this team to post huge totls in some of their games. With last season's MVP Aditya also hitting the strides off late this team boasts plenty of batting depth to bat teams out of a game. Runs have flowed from almost every member in this batting line up and this has helped the team overcome the woeful form of Upjeet, who is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained last semester.

Our sources tell us that Prateek and Nishit have moved on since their graduation and will no longer take part in the Indoor league. Prateek's absence will definitely be a body blow as he was the bed rock of the 'Dogs batting line up through the early part this season.

Sukhdeep has been a revealation this season with the ball. Almost always restricted to being a part time bowler, Sukhdeep has blossomed into his own with good to great spells in the Spring League. Alongside Sukhdeep, this bowling unit ably led by Midhun and supported by the likes of Sachin, Aditya and Upjeet is second to none in this season's Indoor league. Jagpreet and Manish have also rolled their arms over for this team as needed and been pretty effective in controlling the flow of runs.

With their spot in the playoffs secure, the 'Dogs take a really long break until their next game against Club President XI on Apr 19. They play their final regular season game of the PUCC Spring Indoor League against Dhawan’s Blazing Bullets on Apr 20. Overrated Underdogs have not been tested much by the other teams thus far but the 'Dogs sustained their first loss last week against  Golimaar in a close encounter. The 'Dogs are certainly one of the favorites to win the Indoor League Championship heading into the playoffs this season. Their success will be dictated by how well this team handles pressure in close playoff games.
