Internship Worklogs

As part of the course, students are expected to keep worklogs in which they describe, discuss, explain, and analyze their professional writing internship experience.

These worklogs will be kept on the web, and students are expected to post to them a minimum of twice a week. Each entry should be the equivalent of about 300 words (or one typed page).

Students will learn to use Blogger to maintain their weblogs. However, students are free to use another piece of software or tool such as LiveJournal or Moveable Type, if they like.

The content of the entries, or "posts," should constsist of the students' reflections on the writing they are doing. Students will want to account for their work and outline exactly what they have been doing during the internship. In addition to keeping the instructor and the rest of the class updated, students may also want to analyze the culture of the organization, focusing on those aspects of the culture that are most significant for writers. Students might describe how they have accommodated their work behavior and writing to the social realities encountered in the organization.

In short, students should see these worklogs as opportunities to keep a record of their work for the semester, as well as a record of their thoughts, observations, and analysis of the writing they are doing and their particular work environments.
