Round-the-world Trip - Dream or Realisation?

Many people dream of going on a world trip at some point. But for most, it always remains just a dream. They have doubts whether they'll ever be able to do it, have too many commitments, fears of it ruining their career, or think that they'll just never be able to afford it. And then there are those who, at some point, ask themselves the right question: Why not?

Because what could be better than spending the morning striding through the forests of Canada, watching the wild animals of South Africa snoozing in the sun, and having the feeling of complete freedom?

On The Road

Once you are on the road, it's difficult to believe your luck. But it's not all just a walk in the park; a lot of effort lies ahead. Nils from "Weltreise Blog of the Gnomads" only comfirms this: "You've always got to think one step ahead - how do I get from A to B and will it all run smoothly.".

The First Step For A Round-The-World Trip

The first step is often the hardest: the decision to actually go. No one can avoid this part, since you have to make the decision yourself. Once you've decided upon going on a round-the-world trip, you have to do the job properly. Of course, the maximum length of your journey, what happens about your home and job all need planning. Are you going alone or rather with a friend? This all requires a certain amount of time to organise - you should start planning at least 6 months in advance.

The Purpose Of A Round-The-World-Trip

If you've thought about how and why you want to go on this round-the-world trip beforehand, the planning is much easier. Possible reasons could be, for example:

  • Experiencing foreign cultures
  • Rising to challenges and growing from the experience and action
  • Learning something, e.g. a language, sport, technical skill
  • Visiting famous landmarks, e.g. the Taj Mahal in India
  • Taking a break from daily life and giving yourself time to think
  • Making spiritual experiences

What do you need for a round-the-world trip?
In the planning stages, you're faced with a long list that first of all has to be worked down. This starts with money and the question of how you want to travel. When deciding where you want to travel, you should bare in mind how safe these countries are and which vaccinations you will need. Special vaccinations are necessary for many African countries, not forgetting the Malaria prophylaxis.
You should be careful not to take too much equipment. Because 25 kilos on your back can quickly become a burden. Living out of a backpack for a year is also not easy - you'll have to simply give up many conveniences.

Destination Goals Of A Round-The-World Trip

World travelers will certainly have an idea of which countries they want to see from previous travels. Would you rather focus on cities or the countryside? Which continents would you like to see? And how much time will you spend where? There is a big risk of taking on too much so that you have to throw all your plans completely out the window.
