| Welcome to
Mountain Bike Season
The 2008 Midwest Cycling Collegiate
Conference (MWCCC) is about to host another season of good racing.
Races will be held this fall at various colleges around the Midwest,
with cross country, short track, dual slalom, and downhill races
throughout the season. There are classes for everyone, from beginners
to advanced, and for both ladies and men. You don't need any prior
experience to race with the Purdue Cycling Club, just a bike and the
will for fun! Come to one of our meetings for more information, or
email our Mountain Vice President, Andrew Shaw (ajshaw@purdue.edu). You
can also use the Purdue Cycling email list for more information.

Classes
Here is info on the classing system the MWCCC uses, so you
have an idea of what class to race in:

Men's A's
- Doesn't get
any harder than this in collegiate mountain biking. Serious, grueling,
and sharp skills describe this category. Most races range from
26-30miles . This isn't the place to start off for most people...
(26-30 mile races) |

Men's
B's/Women's A's -
A good category that is fun and competitive, A step up from C's. It
provides a pretty good challenge for a lot of people. This category has
a fairly wide variety of skills as it has some sandbaggers, and some
people who just moved up from C's. Most races range from 14-21 miles .
A good place to be if training time is a factor. (16-21 mile races) |
|
Men's
C's/Woman's B's - A great place
to start off if your skills are not the best, you don't' have much time
to ride, want to just ride your bike, and you don't have the most
endurance. Most races range from 7-10miles . A good place to start and
see if you'll like racing! (7-10 mile races) |

Local Trails
The local trail
is located right next to campus and offers a good place to check out.
It is fairly short but is the best thing we have locally. Thanks to the
forestry department we are able to ride here provided we follow a few
rules. Make sure to check out the sign at the trail head for rules. We
do travel to race at more exotic locations! Feel free to check out the
trail! Helmets ARE required!

McCormick
Going west on State street away from campus,
turn right after Purdue West onto SR 526/McCormick Rd
Go up all the way up the hill and turn right onto Cherry Ln
About 1/4 mile on the right hand side is the trail head
Information about the trails:
Enter the park from Cherry Lane and turn right onto the outer
loop. Follow this along the West side of the woods crossing a
small bridge then on to the Southwest side. From the there the
trail meanders around and ends up at the center bridge 0.76 miles
Take the trail to the right and make a right turn at the Y, 0.9 miles.
This trail takes you around the Southeast section of the woods through
twisty trail and along the ravine. The trail comes back to the
main trail near the big tree, 1.25 miles. Make a right turn and
follow the trail down the narrow ravine then back up and along the East
section of the woods , later the trail drops back into the creek valley
then follows along the North side of the woods back to the entrance.
1.9 miles total.
The inner loop (more technical) begins from the entrance but this time
goes to the left. A short distance down the trail make a right at the
Y. This trail takes you across a deep ravine via a bridge then on
into the center passing over two small bridges / ravines. Several log
crossing, some more technical than others will take you to an armored
crossing of the ravine then on into the North center section. Again
there are several log crossings as the trail meanders ending up at the
center bridge, 1.5 miles. From here take a right to head back to the
park entrance. 1.6 miles total.
