Canaanite Jar Found at Mycenae. Canaanite Jars and Trade in the Late Bronze Age Mediterranean. Two of the most
important designators of LBA trade were transport jars produced in Canaan and
the Aegean. The Canaanite jar was a
piriform vessel of varying size (60-100 cm tall) with lug handles and a short
neck, used to convey surplus wine and oil from Canaan to the harbors of New
Kingdom Egypt, and from there to ports throughout the eastern Mediterranean
basin. Egyptian reliefs actually detail the process of fermenting wine in sealed
Canaanite jars as well as the off-loading of these jars at a custom
house in Egypt.
