The beginning cycle

New members of the CKCPU go through a seven-week beginning cycle. This cycle covers the fundamentals of karate, and is repeated continually, so that new people can enter every seven weeks.

New students start by attending the beginning class only. After completing the third week of the beginning cycle, students are eligible to train in the beginning kumite class. After completing the entire beginning cycle, students are eligible to train in the regular class. See the training schedule for details on times and places for these classes. The next beginning cycle starts Tuesday, January 16, 2007

The schedule for the beginning cycle is given below.

WEEK ONE

Introduction, Choku tsuki (straight punch); Mae geri (front snap kick)

Front Stance Power: Vibration, Rotation, Shifting

WEEK TWO

Continue with Power

Uke (Blocking): age (rising), ude (outside forearm), gedan (downward sweeping)

WEEK THREE

Continue with Uke

Kumite (Sparring)

WEEK FOUR

Continue with kumite

Kokutsu dachi (back stance) Shuto uke (knife hand block) Intro to posture & breathing

WEEK FIVE

Kata

Kiba dachi (side stance) yoko geri (side kicking)

WEEK SIX

Continue with yoko geri

Empi uchi (elbow strike) Uraken Uchi (backfist strike)

WEEK SEVEN

Uchi uke (inside forearm block)

Mawashi geri (round house kicking)

Ushiro geri (back kicking)
