This WebQuest was created for teachers who are discussing “Eating Disorders” and wanted to do something different besides lecturing students. This WebQuest allows students to do research on their own, role play in a career, interact with other students, and problem solve.
Audience: The intended audience is 9th-12th grade high school students. Prior to the lesson the students should know: 1. The three eating disorders: anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating 2. The characteristics of these disorders: causes, symptoms, treatments *This prior knowledge helps the “therapy session” run smoother because the students can think and respond quickly without having to interrupt the session by looking in their notes for some answers.
Responsibilities of the Teacher: 1. To make sure the students look at the given websites to receive the proper information about the eating disorders. 2. To listen and evaluate the students on their therapy sessions.
Objectives: 1. Given a patient with an eating disorder, the student must be able to assign the correct disorder to the student with 100% accuracy. 2. Given the Internet resources for information on eating disorders as psychological diseases, students acting as a psychiatrist can identify which neurotransmitters are affected with the eating disorder and assign the correct pharmaceutical drug to the patient with 95% accuracy. 3. Given a patient with an eating disorder, the student acting as a psychiatrist must ask relevant questions to help them identify which eating disorder the patient as with 90% accuracy of questions.
