| Be Found … Together |
One Sunday morning this guy we’d never seen before came by The Found. It was cold outside and he just wanted to use the bathroom. While this kind of thing (using the bathroom) is not completely unusual, it was a little unusual this time and what made it so was that he had never set foot in a church building before. He asked what we were doing and we told him we were worshiping and we asked him if he wanted to join us. He said, “Thanks” but it sounded more like “Thanks, but I think I’ll pass on that.” But for reasons unknown to us at that time he came back the next week. And he just kept coming back until before long he was hanging around with us all the time. He joined us at parties and in worship and at PRAXIS. He even stayed with us after worship and for “post-PRAXIS” pranks. He was great at puzzles, and Spoons, but not so good at Ping-Pong. He joined our guitar class and ended up playing with our worship band. He even went solo in worship a couple times – sounded a bit like an unplugged Dylan – and everyone could tell that if he sang about it, he really meant it. What compelled him to come back? Some say it was something about our bathroom. He said it had something to with “feeling warm.” And it wasn’t just warmth as in getting in from the cold. It was more like making a connection that you just can’t deny feels good. The real sweet thing is that this kind of stuff happens all the time. In the early days of the church they called it “koinonia.” We call it being together. |
