| DAYTONA BEACH, FLA., Flashing past the checkered flag, a team of specially equipped 1964 Comets recently compleated 100,000 miles with average speeds of more than 105 miles per hour at the famed Daytona International Speedway here. The cars had been running continously night and day from September 21, to October 30, through broiling sun, humid heat, squalls, and tropical storms brewed by hurricanes Flora and Ginny in what Lincoln-Mercury Division officals hailed as "one of the mosy grueling challenges to staying power ever undertaken by a car manufacturer." These Comets set more than 100 worldwide speed and endurance records under official sanction of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). |
