Bookmarking Option 1: Scholar It! While Browsing

You can bookmark web resources with Scholar while browsing. When you find the resource you would like to bookmark, highlight it and then click “Scholar it!”.

If you haven’t installed the "Scholar It!" bookmarklet yet, click here.

For ITaP lab computer users: Be sure to use the "Scholar It!" bookmarklet with Firefox only.

When you click "Scholar It!", in the next page you are asked to log in using your scholar username and password. Remember, your Scholar account isn’t the same with your Blackboard’s unless you set up your Scholar account using the same account information of Blackboard.

If you don’t remember your scholar username and password, take the benefit of single sign-on with Blackboard. Open a new tab and log into Blackboard. Enter the course in which Scholar is turned on and then open Scholar from Blackboard through either My Scholar Home or Scholar Course Home.

Leave the Blackboard course tab opened and return to the tab where the resource you want to bookmark is found. When you click “Scholar It!”, this time it will move to the “Add a Bookmark to Scholar” page.

You may notice it captures the information of the resource already.

  • Bookmark Name: it is the same as the webpage title
  • URL: the web address of the resource
  • Description: the information highlighted on the webpage. It can be edited.

You can specify this bookmark by adding tags. What is Tagging?

Proper tagging in the bookmark becomes critical when you are finding resources with using Scholar it! for the purpose of collecting resources in an organized way. The way of organizing collected bookmarks in Scholar is creating a customized stream. What is Stream?

Click here to view the instruction of how to add/customize streams in Scholar Homes.

If your course is registered in Scholar by activating Scholar Course Home, you will see its course tag listed under the “Course Tags” menu. If you want to use this bookmark tied into the course, check the course tag to make this bookmark searchable by it.

When you are done with the setting in the “Add a Bookmark to Scholar” page, click “Save”. You will be back to the webpage that you just bookmarked with Scholar.

To check the result of this bookmarking, go to My Scholar Home. You will see a newly added bookmark listed in both "All Bookmarks" and "My Bookmarks" streams.
