FAQ Hour Certificate/Plan of Study

Q: Why is the School of Mgmt implementing a Plan of Study for accounting students seeking 150 credit hours?

A: We are trying to synchronize our requirements here at Purdue with those of other states. This will allow you to have the option of sitting for the CPA exam in another state other then Indiana, without having to take additional course work.

Q: Will we be able to access the 150 Hour-Plan of Study requirements on the web?

A: Yes, go to the Krannert Website. Click on the link that says Academic Areas and then click Accounting Requirements. You will then be able to access the PDF file with the information you need.

Q: Are Mgmt 200 and Mgmt 201 included in the 24 accounting hours that are required to have been taken before sitting for the CPA exam?

A: They are not included, but under certain circumstances you can obtain a waiver for Mgmt 201.

Q: What is the benefit of having a certificate?

A: A certificate is something tangible, and you will be able to specify on your resume that you took an “educationally sound approach” to meeting the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam.

Q: Can we get credit for summer internships?

A: No, that is currently not an option at Purdue.

Q: If we are graduating next December, will we be able to get a certificate?

A: Most likely you will get some sort of “substitute” certificate.

Q: Do accounting principle courses count in the minimum accounting hours requirements?

A: Most states don’t accept accounting principle courses as credit towards the required 24 accounting hours.

Q: Can we sit for the CPA exam in Indiana, but live in Michigan?

A: You can sit for the CPA exam in Indiana, and Michigan will grant reciprocity later on or you can have the results sent directly to Michigan where they will review your results and grant you a license for Michigan.

Q: Does the proposed Plan of Study fulfill all of the NICSB (National Institute of Certified School Bookkeepers) requirements?

A: Yes it does.
