ACM is the umbrella organization for Special Interest Groups (known as SIGs) who specialize in an area of computer science, like mobile applications, artificial intelligence, game development, high performance computing, multimedia, operating systems, security, and more.
Developing mobile apps. Creating games with stunning graphics. Working on cutting-edge robotics and artificial intelligence, or even making our own operating system. That's the work of ACM.
ACM is free to join. You may have heard about a $19 yearly fee to join, but this only applies to the national organization. You are welcome to join the national organization (there are some cool benefits that you can look up), but to be a part of Purdue's Chapter of ACM, all you need to do is show up to a SIG's meeting. As long as you show up to meetings, you're a part of the group.
You'll get real world experience and work on fun projects. ACM hosts tech talks, hackathons, and other fun events. Corporate sponsors love to interview ACM members. It's free!
SIG stands for Special Interest Group. During the year, each SIG will meet for roughly two hours per week and work on a project. These aren't your standard class projects, though. In ACM, you'll get to work on cool things like create the official Purdue app, go to the VEX Robotics World Championships, or design a system that can reconstruct shredded documents.
Seb is a sophomore in cybersecuriry from South Bend, IN. This is their second year in both ACM and on SIGBots, where they are currently a member of the wiki development, software, and strategy subteams. In her free time, Seb can be found reading, working on projects, or hanging out with her cat.
Jami Pryde is a Senior studying Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Technology from Crown Point, IN. Jami is also the President of SOET Ambassadors and a member of the Strategy subteam for SIGBots. In her free time, Jami can be found relaxing around campus or playing video games.
AR is a junior in Aeronautical and Astronautical engineering. Outside of school, AR leads CS159 Supplemental Instruction and does Engineering Education research, as well as participates in Purdue SIGBots robotics. In their free time, AR enjoys listening to vinyl, playing bass guitar, and playing with their cat, Toast.
Without the following companies' generosity, we wouldn't be able make cool stuff and travel to compete. Most of our SIGs are funded through corporate donations, so we'd like to thank the following.
See our Sponsorship Tiers for information on becoming a sponsor of ACM.
