About our Club
Our Mission
- Provide members with a better all-around understanding of the actuarial profession
- Give our members an opportunity to meet other actuarial students and faculty
- Encourage our members to establish friendships with actuaries in the life/health, property/casualty, and consulting fields
- Bestow knowledge and provide resources to aid our members in their studies and with actuarial exams
Our Activities
Company Presentations - Each semester the actuary club invites companies to come to Purdue to recruit our actuarial students for internships and full-time positions. The presentations provide students with a great deal of knowledge about each respective company. They also give students a chance to meet company representatives, who are usually other actuaries and often Purdue alums.
Actuary Club Mentor Program - Each year we take a survey during our first meeting to determine which members wish to be mentors and which members want to have a mentor. We do this to establish friendships within the club and to provide people new to the club or to the university with another resource for whom they can ask questions or for advice (classes, etc).
Resume Workshop - Each year the club sets up a resume workshop with CNA, a P&C company, for our members. This is a chance for new students to create a resume and have it critiqued and for older members to polish and update their resumes. We then collect these resumes and post them online for companies to view.
Interview Workshop - Each year the club sets up an interview workshop with one of our recruiting companies for our club members. The interview workshop gives our members the opportunity to learn what to wear, what is appropriate during an interview, and how to answer basic questions.
Study Sessions & Social Events - Each semester the actuary club surveys its members to determine the best times for actuarial exam study sessions. These sessions are designed to help one another and to motivate each other to pass the course exams. We also plan numerous social events throughout the year to give our members a chance to get to know one another better and to relax from the stress of studying for exams. Past events range from dinners to ice-skating and so much more!
