Welcome to Aaron DeRosa's English 106/108 'Cold War' webpage. This site, like myself, is simple but jam-packed with awesomeness. The "Resource" link provides a number of writing resources and Cold War information. From the "Handout" link you can download and print all of the extra course readings including the class syllabus. Roughly defined as the period from the end of WWII to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Cold War was one of the most influential moments in American history. From computers to interstate highways, the Cold War has left a distinct imprint on the face of American culture. Particularly today as we grapple with new challenges, it is important for us to consider the historical antecedents from which contemporary issues have taken root. This class is designed with the understanding that most high school history classes never make it past JFK's assassination. There is no expectation of prior knowledge. Over the course of the semester we will work with film, literature, essays, advertisements, television, contemporary politics, and so forth. Hopefully there will be something for everyone. If you have questions, you may contact me at aderosa@purdue.edu or via IM at profpiddlepot.
