I critiqued Schauble et al. (1991)--File 1 because of the relevance of the topic related to my dissertation
work. Professor Schauble has plenty of experience in this research area and her research focus
is on scientific and mathematical reasoning. In particular she studied belief change in contexts of scientific
experimentation, strategy change, and causal inference. The paper I critique is focused
on identifying possible relationships between learners reasoning process and the content
and structural characteristics of the domain knowledge (Schauble et al. 1991). I selected Manlove et al. (2006) --File 2 for several reasons. First, this article, although published very recently, has a quite good number of citations. Second, the researchers discussed some of Schauble’s findings . Finally, Manlove is a Ph.D. working with de Jong, van Joolingen, and Lazonder; strong researchers in the area of scientific discovery learning simulations. This particular article is focused on identifying if an online tool designed to support students’ self-regulation promoted students’ learning working collaboratively in an inquiry task (Manlove, Lazonder, and de Jong 2006). |
