Testing

Testing takes place as arranged by Weiner Sensei and is administered under the authority of the Aikido Shimbokukai organization, which is directly connected to the Aikikai Foundation and Aikido World Headquarters (Aikido Hombu Dojo) in Tokyo, Japan.

Since a minimum number of practices is specified for each promotion, members of the Purdue University Aikido Club are encouraged to maintain a journal recording the dates of training sessions they attend. Test requirements for ranks of 5th Kyu and above are in accord with the requirements set by the Hombu Dojo in Japan.

In addition, we also hold testing for the rank of 6th Kyu (6th Kyu test requirements . Beginning aikido practitioners should be able to progress to the point where testing for 6th Kyu is appropriate within one semester, assuming they train regularly.

Tests also include supplemental written questions, which will be provided by Weiner Sensei. In general, responses should be submitted to Weiner Sensei one week in advance of the testing date. Short answers (a few sentences to a paragraph per question) are usually sufficient. As in academic essays, please write your answers in your own words; do NOT simply cut and paste from the web.
