Why Rush Alpha Chi Omega?
|
Academics |
Academics
play a large roll in the chapter. To rush, a
student must have a 2.0 GPA and a freshman with a
2.3 or a sophomore with a 2.5 is considered for
Alpha Chi Omega. We have always been in the top
five of sororities for grades. We have also been
way above the sorority average, women's residence
hall average and the all women average. We take
great pride in keeping good grades and
encouraging academic honors throughout campus.
|
|
Philanthrophy |
Each sorority
and fraternity on campus has a charity for which
it raises money. Alpha Chi Omega donates time and
money to the local battered women's shelter at
the YWCA here in Lafayette. Nationally, our
philanthrophy is Women of Domestic Violence. To raise money, we have an annual
Frisbee Fling. Frisbee Fling is basically a game
of ultimate Frisbee. The fraternities on campus
will pay an entry fee to play a tournament of
ultimate Frisbee. The sisters of Alpha Chi Omega
act as coaches (telling the time, place, rules,
etc.), water girls, and general cheerleaders. The
money raised from the entry fees is donated to
the shelter. Last September we raised $900!!!

|
Intramural |
Intramurals
are the athletic competitions between sororities,
cooperatives, and residence halls. This includes
everything from basketball to table tennis. Alpha
Chi Omega has won intramurals (had the most
participation and won the most events) for the
last two years and we are on our way to win again
this year. We have also played in the final game
for basketball in Mackey Arena for the past two
years. Alpha Chi Omega houses some true athletes,
but there is a bunch of us who go out to just
have a good time.
|
|
Campus
Involvement |
There are
many, many organizations on campus, 590 to be
exact. Alpha Chi Omega boasts that we are in over
200 of these. Campus involvement not only makes
Purdue flourish, but it also creates a well
rounded student.

How
Does Rush Work At Purdue?
|
Quota
Total Defined |
1. Gives each rushee maximum
opportunity to pledge
2. Provides
the Greek experience to as many women as possible
3. Maintains
adequate strength in fraternity chapters
|
|
Setting
Quota For Formal Rush Here at Purdue |
The
Panhellenic Council has decided that Quota shall
be set from the number of women still actively
participating in rush after Coke parties (3rd
round). This means that we will not know the size
of our incoming new member class until the night
before the Suit party (4th round) or possibly the
day of suits.
|
|
Quota |
Refers to the
number each fraternity will be allowed to pledge
during formal rush.
|
|
Panhellenic
Total |
Allowable
chapter size, as determined by the Panhellenic
Council includes both new and lifetime members.
Once set, this number shall remain constant for
several years-until all chapters on campus have
it met.

|
Overview
of Fall Open/Informal Rush |
Fall open rush is for 2nd semester
freshmen, sophomores, and transfer sophomores. No
juniors or seniors allowed.
A women who
has participated in fall open/informal rush is
still eligible to participate in formal rush as
long as she has not signed a bid acceptance from
any chapter. Once she has signed a bid she will
be ineligible for one calendar year.
Panhellenic
will set a total which all houses must meet, at
this time the predicted total will be 90. All
sororities which do not met the specific
requirements will be required to participate in
fall open/informal rush.
