Social

Social life isn't only an important part of college - it's an important part of being an Alpha Gam! Throughout the year, our fabulous social coordinators plan and host several dances, trade dinners with other houses, tailgating activities, functions with other houses, and many other fun and exciting events!

Football: Every true Boiler knows that there is nothing more important than football season.  We pair up with another house for the entire season to sit with at games and have tailgates with. There will be different days where the members of the other house will come wake all of us up to go tailgate and surprise us with breakfast. There will also be different days where they will invite us back to their house after the game and have a cookout or another social event. It’s a great way to meet and interact with people from other houses and another fun way to hang out with your sisters!

Barndance: Ever heard of a dance in a barn? Barndance is one of the most fun and interesting events Alpha Gamma Delta has. The whole house, along with each member’s date for the night travel to a barn for an evening in the fall. Everyone will dress up in "cowboy" or "barn" attire for a night of dancing, hayrides, bonfires, and the occasional pet rooster! And what would a bonfire be without the s’mores? There’s also tons of other delicious food, too. It’s an awesome night where you can dress down, bust out those cowboy boots, kick back, and enjoy a good ‘ole country line dance!

Spontaneous: The socials plan this dance in secret and surreptitiously designate a location and theme. The rest of the house finds out the day of the event, and then the objective is to spend the day finding the best outfit to fit the theme and a date. It can be very interesting and entertaining to see some of the crazy outfits Alpha Gams come up with! This dance is a ton of fun since it a "spur of the moment" kind of event, and you get to enjoy crazy themes the social coordinators come up with. Past themes have included fairytales and holidays.

Crush dance: This is our semiformal dance to honor the graduating seniors of the house. It takes place around Valentine’s Day at a banquet hall in downtown Lafayette. Hor d'oeuvres are provided, and it’s a classy event for both an Alpha Gam and her date. It’s a great way to cure the winter blues with an extravagant night of dancing and an excuse to wear one of those dresses you never thought you would get to wear again!

Formal: Formal is a very high-class dance that has been hosted at the beautiful Holiday Inn in downtown Lafayette. There is a catered dinner followed by dancing and fun until your feet hurt! Got a prom dress from high school you figured would just keep collecting dust in your closet? Perfect! This event is formal dresses for Alpha Gams and suits for their dates. Once again, the socials give us another excuse to dress up for a fun night with our sisters and a chance to get away from school.

Grand Prix Week: For the entire week, our chapter is paired with another house for the "Greatest Spectacle in College Racing". Grand Prix is known around Indiana and even in some neighboring states, and the best (and only) way to celebrate it is the Alpha Gam way. We have casual events planned for every night of the week! This week is always different and always a blast, and the only way to end it is with the Grand Prix Go-Kart Race on Saturday! The house we’re paired with will wake us up early Saturday morning with the possibility of an orange juice and doughnuts or muffins surprise. Then we’ll spend the day hanging out with everyone, tailgating, making friends, and having an awesome time until the race in the afternoon!  It's a great way to meet and interact with other people in the Greek community and your sisters!

Functions: The most common social events are hosted throughout the year. These are private events with another house that always have fun themes to dress up for and activities to participate in. They can happen any night of the week, but generally tend to happened on weekends, so if you think there’s nothing to do in West Lafayette, there’s always a function for Alpha Gams! Some of the past themes have included Hawaiian, Christmas or holiday-themed, toga, sporting your favorite team’s jersey, classy with cocktail dresses, and so much more. It’s the best and most frequent way to socialize with other houses and have fun with your sisters!

Trade Dinners: These dinners are with one other house around 5:30 or 6pm. Half of Alpha Gamma Delta will go to the other house, and half of their house will come to Alpha Gamma Delta. Typically, it’s split up so seniors can hang out with other seniors, juniors with juniors, etc. It’s a fun way to experience dinner at a different house and see what entrees they provide for their members. It’s also a great way to meet people from other houses and socialize after classes.
