Philanthropy

Our Promise to Children

Alpha Xi Delta's interest in children and their special needs led us to adopt Choose Children, a initiative that emphasizes voluntary service in all areas of child well-being. Choose Children isn't an organization - it's an idea.

Unlike many other Greek organizations, Alpha Xi Delta is not exclusively linked with one philanthropic organization. Alpha Xi Delta gives members the flexibility to look in their communities and decide how they can best benefit children. For some chapters it's sponsoring a football tournament to raise money for a local organization; for others it's spending time tutoring children at an after-school program. Some chapters choose to work with children at a battered women's shelter, while others entertain patients in the pediatric wing of a hospital. No matter what activity a chapter, association or individual chooses, the impact that Alpha Xi Delta's have on children in their communities is unmatched. And the impact children have on Alpha Xi Delta's everywhere is immense!

In 1998 Alpha Xi Delta joined in supporting the goal of America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth by promising to give more than 75,000 hours and $250,000 yearly in contributions and donated goods to children. Alpha Xi Delta chapters, associations and individual members have met or exceeded our promise every year.

Our Chapter

At the Alpha Eta Chapter at Purdue University we participate in many Choose Children Philanthropies. During the school year we are pen pals with a local grade school. Each month we write letters back and forth with third graders.

Each year Alpha Eta has their Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Slayter Hill. We have someone dress up as the Easter Bunny and we hunt for eggs with young children. We also have our annual Fuzzie Football to raise money for children. Alpha Eta also participates in many Campus wide Philanthropies throughout the school year with other Fraternities and Sororities.

External Philanthropies (2007-2008)

Alpha Xi Delta is also involved in many external philanthropies. In 2007, we won first place in Delta Gamma's Anchor Spalsh. Some other philanthropies we have recently been involved in are:

  • Zeta Tau Alpha's Big Man on Campus
  • Delta Upsilon's Rodeo
  • Phi Kappa Psi Trike Races (We won 1st!)
  • Pi Kappa Phi's War of the Roses
  • Alpha Tau Omega's Shopping Spree
  • Lambda Chi Alpha's Watermelon Bust
