The American Foundry Society was established in 1896 to help educate, maintain, and assist companies with managing foundry’s. The Purdue University AFS Chapter was established in 1949 and has been inactive for a few years now. Recently with the help of faculty and students the Purdue AFS Student Chapter has decided to make its way back into the metal casting scene.
Foundry safety, techniques, and metallurgy are a few of the topics discussed in the monthly meetings. With access to an aluminum green sand casting facility training sessions are conducted periodically. The training sessions provide exposure to metal casting for people who have never had the chance. Again safety is stressed throughout the whole organization whether it be during training sessions or when visiting a casting facility.
Trips to metal casting related facilities are another large part of this chapter. We believe that the more exposure to real-world applications can only help us to better grasp the concepts and new technology available in the metal casting industry.
Thank you for visiting our site and please take a moment to look around and to perhaps join our organization.
