(Its a video)

Check this out. It kind of reminds me of the movie Minority Report and how the computers work in there. With all the new interface ideas that are appearing you wonder how everthing is gonna turn out. So here are your questions.

Do you think this is a good way of interacting with computers? Imagine combining this with what we saw at the Envision Center. Do you think we'll be able to interact with computers like in Minority Report? How could this potentially change how computers work?

Yes, it does remind me of Minority Report. I think this is a really good way of interacting with computers in most settings. There are maybe a couple settings that this would not be practical for, like typing while doing other things. We obviously can interact with computers in this way, its just a matter of time for the technology to be available. I don't think this will change how computers work so much as how we interact with them.

I believe that this technology could be somewhat revolutionary in a sense, but I don't think it should completely replace keyboard and mouse. Although it could be a real space saver, I would not want to type on a virtual keyboard...the angle could be painful to the hands and it would be easy to lose one's hand placings on a smooth surface (rather than on raised buttons). The touch screen capabilities would be perfect for browsing the internet and accessing data, but I would still want a pointer-like device to use as a mouse in video games. Here I see a remote control such as the Nintendo Wiimote replacing the traditional mouse.

It will be really cool if my laptop screen had this technology. But I will never sacrifice my keyboard and touch pad.
I think this way of interacting with a computer is so tiring. Just imagine yourself moving your hands like the guy in the vidoe for few hours...in the beginning it will be so cool but after you get into more serious business(say Java Project Smiling ) you will definetely want your keyboard and mouse back: they are just more comfortable and don't require much effort.(if this "revolutionery" touch pad was horizontal "__" you will hurt you neck, it it was vertical " | " you will hurt your hands!!!)

Whoa, this multi-touch technology is revolutionary. The closest thing I've seen to something like this is the Nintendo DS, but this is definitely much more advanced. I like how he moved around the pictures and resized them with two fingers. That was so interesting. The amount of work involved in creating this must have been mind-blowing. This is definitely a good way to interact with computers. No longer would pesky hardware like the keyboard and mouse be needed. Jeff Han is so right when he says this is the way we should use computers.

I realy hink that this could be the computer of tomorrow. However, if we stretch our imagination ever more, think of a monitor that actually gives a 3-D holographic display of the monitor and we can interact with that. That would be even cooler. So, yes this is a good way to interact with our computers but there are certainly better ways as well if one thinks about it. As for the movie Minority Report, I haven't yet seen it so I don't know.

That multi-touch technology really astounded me. The applications for this technology are practically endless. The variety of things you could do with it amaze me. You could manipulate art, as was shown on the video, or you could very easily manipulate musical notes on a screen. Patom's right, it's definitely a lot like Minority Report. COOL! I definitely think this is a great way of interacting with computers, the mouse is getting outdated pretty fast. The Nintendo Wii is coming out soon, and that uses a controller that detects hand movement. I dont recall if Tom Cruise has any hand-attachment, but it'd be really cool for a computer to recognize hand signals to move things according to your will. This sort of technology could really change the user interface of computers and allow people with limited computer knowledge to manipulate computers to do whatever they really wanted.

This is the type of stuff that gets me excited about going into the technology field. I just sat at my computer glued to the screen that whole entire video clip. That was so awesome! I think this technology is going to be huge. It was said on the video that this type of technology can be inexpensive, and I think that is key to its popularity. With this type of touch screen, we can revolutionize so many fields (including art, computer graphics, entertainment, etc). I would be interested in working with this type of technology.

This is pretty nice. I would love to interact with computers with a multitouch screen. I still am a little unclear of how the keyboard function would work. I know I myself am a much faster typer than writer. I would much prefer the physical keyboard rather than the one on the small screen. Imagining writing a Java program on one of those keyboards makes me kind of shy away from it. And yes, someday I think we will be able to interact with computers like in Minority Report.

Wow, thats amazing. I think the computer program that can track all those movements and simulate all those operations at the same time must be really complicated. (Actually, I bet the hardware is really expensive too.)

This could definitely change how people interact with computers. It would throw many things such as a mouse and keyboard out the window.

That's pretty awesome stuff. I don't think it would be as easy to navigate as he was saying it would be, at first, but then again, I think it would be a whole lot faster once you got used to it. First things first, I want to talk about the keyboard functionality. I see how he was talking about making a keyboard that "anticipates" your next move or whatnot, what about having a specified place on the screen where you simply write out your letters, instead of typing them on a keyboard, like a PDA or touchscreen laptop? I would love to imagine how this would affect my 3d rendering in Cinema4D, my templates and digital art in Photoshop, or how easy it would be to use the interfaces of Macromedia Flash, etc. These graphical-oriented programs would benefits tons from a touchscreen, and I can see millions of Americans alone using it to sort through their digital photos, surf the web, etc. Can't wait until it gets cheap enough and smart enough for the public, I'll be wanting one. Smiling Of course, Windows will go along and screw everything up Eye-wink.
