First Look: Sony's PS3 Versus Nintendo's Wii

Overview

This article compares the launches of the PS3 and Wii, and asks the important question: Which company will come out on top?

Will it be the Wii with a superior controller and innovative gameplay, or will it be the PlayStation 3 with greatly enhanced graphics and other attractive features?

Questions

  • Which would you prefer?
    • PS3, the more expensive graphic-oriented system or

    • Wii, the less expensive innovative system?
  • Have game developers forgotten why we play; are they simply interested in the quest for more money and better graphics, and not necessarily the quest for better and more innovative gameplay?

I too am much more of a Wii fan. To me, as long as the game is fun to play, graphics can be as bad as they want. I still play some of my old school mario kart and compared with the graphics they have now, they are not anywhere near that 'high definition' cabilities. Plus, with that online shop I can easily still play those old school games on the wii as well. Also, I like the wii because I'm a poor college student and am not willing to spend $600 on a game system.

I personally think the Wii will come out on top. Its innovative gameplay and library of impressive titles really make this the more entertaining system. The PS2 was a great system, but Sony seems to have lost a lot of its 3rd party support, and I would even put the Xbox 360 ahead of it, with its increasingly impressive list of games. The only reason I would get a PS3 would be to either sell it on ebay or use it for its Blu-ray capabilities.

Also, if I want to look at pretty graphics I'll just get on my computer.
