Will it be the Wii with a superior controller and innovative gameplay, or will it be the PlayStation 3 with greatly enhanced graphics and other attractive features? Questions
Week 13: Movies and ComputersWeek 13: Jackie and DivvyaAfter watching the segment from Star Wars in class, what are your thoughts about the use of computers in movies? Feel free to comment about this movie or any other movie that relates to the topic. Additional questions: Play Responses - 1984defining conceptsSo, I think this is the topic for week 12. What are your responses for the play, 1984? Not to set the tone negatively, but I didn't like it at all. I thought most of the humor was misplaced and the reenacting of the story line, while good, was confusing. I suppose I don't like the way the wrote the play more than I didn't like the acting. I thought the actors (and actress) did a very good job with their parts. There were a few things that annoyed me like none other, one was the electric sock sound and the other was their, "not that long" response to periods of time. I think it could have been done better, but that's just my opinion. Week 11 - Ben & PatomPosting Calendarhttp://ted.com/tedtalks/tedtalksplayer.cfm?key=j_han&flashEnabled=1 Check this out. It kind of reminds me of the movie Minority Report and how the computers work in there. With all the new interface ideas that are appearing you wonder how everthing is gonna turn out. So here are your questions. Do you think this is a good way of interacting with computers? Imagine combining this with what we saw at the Envision Center. Do you think we'll be able to interact with computers like in Minority Report? How could this potentially change how computers work? [Week 10] Joe & GeoffPosting Calendarhttp://techfreep.com/teen-controls-video-game-with-his-mind.htm#more-257 This is really amazing. Technological leaps such as this really put into perspective how far technology has come, and how technology is catching up with fantasy. So a few questions to ask. Do you think this is the future of gaming? What other applications of this science do you think would be effective (using mind control for other tasks electronically)? Can you think of other technologies that until reciently have been thought to be purely fantasy? Week 9: Kyle Clements and Tim Juchiniski (The Matrix)Posting CalendarThe Matrix NASA's Virtual Reality Video Game SimulatorWeek 7: Mohammed and Paulhttp://www.fcw.com/article95980-09-11-06-Print Now that you have read the article and, without doubt, thought it was cool that the technology used in video games is going to be used to train astronauts and engineers, I would like to hear your opinion about some ot the aspects of the article. Do you think that NASA's initiative is going to lead to more collaboration between video games companies and the sophisticated scientific research centers? Is virtual reality an effective way of training scientists? Since the article resembles our tour to the envision center, do you think that the envis Envision CenterEnvision Center CommentsThe part I liked the most about the tour was the haptics device. I had never seen anything like that before, and I think it should be really interesting to see the field of haptics progress in technology in the near future. The tour guides also did a great job at demonstrating their technologies. Pretty CoolEnvision Center CommentsI think the tour of the envision center was great fun. I learnt how 3-D animations and simulations can make things so easy for researchers and developers. Personally, I'm not too big a fan of Computer graphics and the areas of communication, robotics excite me much more. So even though the tour kept me interested, it did not excite me to the level of inquiring more about the subject. Firewall blocks DDOSWeek 6: Adam and ScottThe article can be found at http://www.infoworld.com/article/06/07/13/HNstopddos_1.html?FIREWALLS Basically, a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is used to shut down a network. Researchers in Europe aim to fix that with the new Diadem Firewall, a firewall that exists in both hardware and software form on the edge of a network rather than within. The firewall provides automatic reactions based on the behavior of the client. This kind of policy based decision making is new. This firewall could render DDOS a distant memory. |
