Salt and Light Christian Fellowship of Purdue University, a ministry of Kossuth Street Baptist Church in Lafayette is holding its 21th annual coed volleyball tournament June 21st on the grass intramural fields of Purdue University. It is a low cost charity event for Trinity Mission – a nonprofit organization that helps homeless people and people with alcohol or drug addictions re-enter society. The event is held at the corner of third and McCormick Streets, West Lafayette (Purdue Campus), one block north of the Purdue west shopping center and west of the Purdue Recreational Sports Center (Co-rec). It is six person coed, although some teams play as quads. The cost is $5.00 per person. Sign in is from 810 to 830 AM. We have a competitive-open level -with college players and A level guys- some former Lafayette Jefferson players. We also get top 17 and 18 year old women AAU players in the competitive level. For many it is their first experience playing A level coed volleyball. The competitive level is "recruit whom you can" including numerous current, past and to be division 1 players. Last year we had 4 competitive teams from Indianapolis, 2 from Fort Wayne, and 5 from the region including and Kokomo, Logansport, and Crawfordsville. We have also had teams comprised of parents and their children. The intermediate B level includes many B level league, corporate, intramural, family and regional Church teams. Numerous high school boys and girls play in the intermediate level. We do help people find teams and usually have two A and two B level put-together teams. We also have two - morning only put-together teams for those with conflicts in the afternoon. These teams play in the round -robin and play each team as hard as they can. We have also started co-ed ultimate Frisbee for those - who quite frankly like to run - a lot. We will have current players and alumni of the Purdue ultimate Frisbee Club, club teams from Lafayette Jefferson and Harrison high schools -and teams of local players. People can sign up as team or as individuals or groups of two to four people in the ultimate Frisbee. The ultimate Frisbee plays three to four games in a round- robin and then has a single elimination tournament. The morning is a round robin and the afternoon is a tournament. The morning round-robin is used to break the two levels into 2 or 3 6 to 8 team tournaments. Please consider playing - feel free to pass on the flyer. I can mail Additional copies of the flyers. If you see someone you would like to play with again - feel free to hand the person a flyer. I do help people fill teams - so if you think you would like to play - I can tell you which teams are being formed that could use one or two more players. Yes, this is a social event for some. People play with a friendly attitude. Three teams from outside the area (Indy, Logansport and Lexington KY commented how friendly people were playing in many cases very close competitive games.
