Finally at long last I get to do a Legend website. For me, Legend was the first movie to ever spark my interest in costuming, but I never pursued it until I saw Lord of The Rings. Now even though this wasn't my original idea (I had always thought I'd end up doing a fan site) it is a wonderful oppertunity to pay hommage to this monumental movie. Its also very exciting to be the first one (to my knowledge) to do a site solely devoted to the costumes. There have been very few fan reproductions and as of right now there are no sites deconstructing the costumes. So hopefully this will become a jumping off point for many loyal fans to finally make their own reproductions. Right now I am only doing Lili's two costumes, but if anyone would like me to add the others or just needs some tips and screen caps (even something like how to make Oona's wings) please e-mail me or post on the message board your request. I hope you enjoy and appreciate it from one fan to another.

Oona's Costume

Oona's Outfit

Oona's costume though simple in appearance is actually far more intricate. The basic body is of a patterned chiffon with tattered edges. The pattern is splotches of a bluish-grey almost like veins or paint splatters. Unfortunately it is incredibly difficult to tell just how the outfit is kept up in place. It appears that in some scenes you can see that there is a very sheer flesh-tone fabric that extends from the neck on around to the back, basically like a tank top. Although, it is possible that it has a lycra underlayer which it tightly fitted, but in the publicity photos and screencaps it isn't that tight. She has a "hat" that has a stem on top. It has a rope trim around the edge.

Oona's Wings

The wings are probably the most notable feature of Oona's costume. They're made of crystal organza. There are three wings on each side. The ends and part of the lower edge of the individual wing is shredded. At first I thought there were just holes in the wings, but actually there is much more. There are small holes and a few large ones, there are small clear jewels on the wings, and very fine glitter. There are some spots were the glitter is put on in such a way that it creates a circle that from a little distance looks like a hole. The wings are each set into a white base that appears to be wrapped in shredded organza, although, it also very difficult to tell since there aren't very many decent shots of her back. They could be plastic wrapped in a fabric too. There is no main frame base that connects the wings to one another like most Faerie wings that are made by costumers. So Oona's wings are probably attached to her outfit.

faerie fashions

If you're interested in faerie fashion there are three wonderful seamstresses who offer wonderful wings and costumes. One of which is currently not taking orders but you can view their work. The other two ladies are always taking orders and could quite possibly make a reproduction of Oona's wings, just ask! Also there is another lady who has been doing historical and fantasy costuming for quite awhile that recently began delving into faerie fashion. And last but definately not least there is a amazing seamstress who recently gained the rights to make reproductions of a fantasy artist's work. In other words, take the artist's pictures and make the clothes that the subjects wear!
