Finally at long last I get to do a Legend website. For me, Legend was the first movie to ever spark my interest in costuming, but I never pursued it until I saw Lord of The Rings. Now even though this wasn't my original idea (I had always thought I'd end up doing a fan site) it is a wonderful oppertunity to pay hommage to this monumental movie. Its also very exciting to be the first one (to my knowledge) to do a site solely devoted to the costumes. There have been very few fan reproductions and as of right now there are no sites deconstructing the costumes. So hopefully this will become a jumping off point for many loyal fans to finally make their own reproductions. Right now I am only doing Lili's two costumes, but if anyone would like me to add the others or just needs some tips and screen caps (even something like how to make Oona's wings) please e-mail me or post on the message board your request. I hope you enjoy and appreciate it from one fan to another.

The Yellow Gown

Lili's gorgeous yellow gown is made of a light yellow thick silk jaquard(no pattern). The chemise is white silk jaquard. The train is about 4 feet long. There are seams on either side and one in the back. The overdress sleeves go to about a few inches above the floor and end in a point. They attach under the arm with two sets of richly beaded trim pieces. The lower trim piece is split and ties with a gold cord, which is probably the same cord that laces up the chemise sleeves (discussed below). The front laces up with gold cord.

In these pictures you can see the trim detail of the bodice area. There is gold cord that runs all over the front with beades and flowers in different colors (notably blue and pink with small pearls in them). The belt, that actually isn't a belt, ist's just shaped gold cord and embroiderly (appliques and peices of trim would make nice substitutes for a reproduction). In the last picture you can see the width between the lacing holes which are sewn holes not grommets. Note the amount of fabric that has been gathered up when the yellow overdress is laced up tightly. There is no boning in this dress as evidence by the bunching.

The trim on this dress appears to have a base of an embroidered flower pattern, over which beads, flowers, and a beaded tassel is attached. The flowers continue along with the gold cord around to the back of the dress. There are groups of beaded gold flowers on the trim. In some of the pictures you can see how the straps of the yellow overdress slip above the white chemise. In the very last picture you can see where the top trim piece is attached to the overdress (you can even make out the stitching).

Trim Detail

The sleeves are laced up beginning a few inches above the elbow up to the wrist on the underside of the white chemise. At the end of the chemise sleeve there is gold trim which goes around it. The sleeves end in a point. In the last picture you can see how far the sleeve lacing hangs from her wrists.

The headress is made of gold netting and one star shaped beaded flower and two in the back with a brown, twisted ornament; which is probably a clip used to secure it to her that is pulled back from the front of her face.
