During your college career, you'll have several chances to become involved in campus organizations. One avenue for your consideration is membership in a fraternity. The Greek system has adapted its focus to meet the expectations of today's college student, while maintaining the strong traditions each organization was built on.
Fraterity membership can provide you with the means to balance your many demands, excel academically, make lifelong friendships, and enhance your college experience.
LEADERSHIP. Dedicated to building future leaders by providing an abundance of leadership opportunities. Being a member of the Greek system is one of the best ways of defining your leadership potential. Opportunities to learn and become a leader go beyond each individual chapter into the community.
Leadership is often learned by actively participating, but leadership is also acquired by attending conferences and workshops. Purdue University Greek community is the host of the Indiana Greek Leadership Conference. This daylong conference features nationally recognized speakers presenting keynotes addresses, as well as oriented break-out sessions. Each year close to 1200 Greeks from Indiana participate in conference.
Beyond the Greek Community, members are involved in nearly 500 registered students organizations offered at Purdue University and can be found in almost every committee that shapes campus life.
SCHOLARSHIP. The Greek system at Purdue University has a strong tradition of high academic standards. Each fraternity and sorority chapter places a strong emphasis on the development of academic excellence among members by setting their own scholarship guidelines. Chapters have a scholarship chairman that is responsible for academic success of the chapter.
Programs range from tutoring, study programs, and incentives for high academic achievement. Members learn the value of time management in order to attain their desired scholastic goals along with participating in other activities and responsibilities.
PHILANTHROPY. A VERY STRONG TRADITION of both fraternity and sorority organizations is their support of chosen philanthropies both locally and nationally. Philanthropic events are an integral and important part of Greek life. These fun-filled activities provide members with a wonderful opportunity to give their time as a charitable contribution to the community. Through athletic tournaments and entertainment events, chapters have fun competing with each other while raising funds to benefit worthy causes.
SOCIAL.FRATERNITIES provide a wide range of social programs and activates for members. Organized social programs include formals, social functions with other sororities and fraternities, barn dances, Greek Week, Homecoming, and Parent's Weekend. Social events are a great way for members to take a relaxing break from the daily routine of classes and work, get together to meet new people, and have fun.
At Purdue University, each chapter maintains a responsible social policy monitored by the Panhellenic Association and Interfraternity Council, which promotes enjoyable social experiences in safe environments. Panel and IFC are committed to helping organizations maintain balanced social programs which contribute to personal developments versus detracting from the university's educational experience.
ATHLETICS. Purdue University is proud to have a strong intramural sports program. The overwhelming participation of the Greek men and women in the program contributes to its overall success. The intramural program consists of many different athletic sports, including everything from basketball to soccer to flag football.
