The Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi had its origin in the Concordia Club, which was founded at Purdue University in 1922 by the American Luther League of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The Rev. Paul Schmidt, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette, was influential in organizing the club.

On May 26, 1922 an option was taken in a house in West Lafayette, housing 16 students. The students moved in September of that year. The University of Illinois Concordia Club, for status on campus, became a Greek letter organization and took the name Beta Sigma Psi. They asked the Purdue Concordia Club to do the same, organizing a National Lutheran Fraternity in 1925. Purdue's chapter became known as the Beta Chapter.

From 1928-1934 around thirty to thirty-five students lived in the rented McCutcheon house. After World War II, membership grew and a Quonset hut was erected in the lot in back of the house; this housed an additional ten to fifteen students.

In 1950 a group of eighteen alumni held a meeting at Homecoming, and the following year the Lafayette Alumni Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi was organized. The property that the chapter owned on Pierce St. was transferred to the Alumni Chapter in 1952. The Alumni Chapter then took over the responibility and maintenance of the Chapter House.

The Chapter moved into property on Sheetz St. in 1959, but only stayed there for five years. In 1964 the thirty-five active members of the chapter moved into the old Pi Kappa Alpha house at 149 Andrews Place until a more suitable place could be found. The permanent location was soon found, the Chapter would reside at 525 University Street. Occupancy of the house, which had a maximum capicity of fifty, began on September 1, 1965.

While this is still the address that Beta Sigma Psi is to this day, the house has not gone unchanged. The kitchen has undergone two major renovations since the house was purchased, in 1971-72 and then again in 1988. The bathroom has undergone two renovations also, the first in 1969, and then again in 2003. The roof was replaced in 1973 and has gone through upkeep since that time. The second and third flooor underwent extensive renovations in 1988, and the basement has been improved in 1988 and again in 2004. The dining room has also been improved; in 1995 it was remodeled, and then it recieved a major renovation in 2000.
