Welcome to the Black Graduate Student Association


The Purdue University Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) is a non-profit student organization committed to the unification of its members through the facilitation of programs that strengthen the community of Black graduate and professional students across disciplines.

The mission of the Purdue BGSA is to:

  • Encourage scholarly and professional attitudes and performance amongst Black graduate students;
  • Promote participation in advanced study for Black graduate students;
  • Promote activity interchange between Black graduate students of Purdue University and those of other colleges and universities;
  • Provide a professional and social opportunity for networking among Black graduate students at Purdue;
  • Provide a forum for the discussion of grievances, issues etc., of direct concern to Black graduate students.

Resurrected in 1999, the BGSA is a student run organization committed to the unification of its members through the facilitation of programs that strengthen the community of black graduate and professional students across disciplines.

The objectives are:

  • Encourage scholarly and professional attitudes and performance among Black graduate students.
  • Promote participation in advanced study for Black undergraduate students.
  • Provide an open platform for the discussion of grievances, issues, etc., of direct concern to Black graduate and professional students.
  • Provide a professional and social opportunity for networking among Black graduate and professional students at Purdue University.
