Project Log for Weeks 7 and 8

We are still in the research phase of our project. My responsibilities include locating educational spaces in SecondLife and choosing screen shots and content for our machinima film. I'm also responsible for the technical aspects of our website, which we intend to use to make our film accessible and to provide an educational resource for students and instructors interested in the SecondLife learning environments. So far, I have registered our domain name, studentavatar.com, and have found a web-hosting company. I'll be working on designing and publishing our site during the next two weeks. We will be meeting on Saturday, March 10 to write our script and begin filming.

I am working on finding various classroom practices that take place in Second Life. We will try to glean from various websites and personal contributions (we have a call out to the weblists and sites designated for L2 educators) the lesson plans, class activities, and projects that people have been trying out in our rocking virtual world. It will be interesting to see what kind of writing tasks are taking place, and how people are altering thier classroom practices (or not) to adjust to this new media. As a side note, I will be teaching the Computer Graphics Learning Community next semester, which, if we are able to find some way to use the computers in the labs for L2, could be a good testing ground for some of our own composition ideas in second life. I will have a group of computer and visually skilled students that I have the task of teaching. Rock on. L2 group is cool! Mad Morgan Rackem (aka Morgan Reitmeyer)
