EAS 100,
Planet Earth
(Feb. 9,
2012)
EXAM I
Thursday, Feb.
16, 1:30-2:45pm, PHYS 112
1. Material presented
in class through Feb. 14 (Intro section, Earth section through discussions of
Interior of the Earth, Chemistry of the Earth and Plate Tectonics
Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, Plate Boundaries, evidence for plate tectonics).
2. You may use one 3x5 study card.
3. Format: short answer and multiple choice
Studying for the Exam:
1. Study your notes
first (assigned reading in the text should provide additional
information and explanation; use the study guide to the text and the assigned reading
pages from the course outline to guide your study of the textbook material).
2. Emphasis is on major
concepts (when you see a section in your notes representing a
significant portion of a lecture period, ask yourself, can I describe this
concept or process?).
3. Try to develop understanding and visualization, not memorization (example:
transfer of energy radiation, conduction, convection).
4. Read
questions carefully; be sure you know what is
being asked before starting to answer.
5. Prepare your study card
thoughtfully.
