Near Real Time Display of WLIN AS-1 Seismograph
(L. Braile, May, 2004)
To view the near real time display (screen capture of 24-hour record, about 140 KB JPEG file, updated every 10 minutes) of the WLIN AS-1 seismograph, click on the following link:
WLIN AS-1 Seismograph Near Real Time Display
This online display is updated every 10 minutes. The seismograph station is located in West Lafayette, Indiana (40.484oN, 86.881oW, 205 m elevation). The seismograph consists of an AS-1 seismometer (http://www.amateurseismologist.com/) with data recording on a Windows computer running the AmaSeis software (http://www.geol.binghamton.edu/faculty/jones/). The AS-1/AmaSeis seismograph is normally operated at WLIN with a gain setting of 60. The near real time display is created using the WinGrab (http://home.no.net/wingrab/) automated screen capture program and the FTP Voyager (http://www.rhinosoft.com) automated FTP utility. If the screen display (see sample image below) is not up to date or is incorrect, the seismograph or the automatic transfers may be temporarily inoperative (the most frequent problems are occasional interruptions in the Internet connection causing the automated ftp program to crash or brief power outages). Please notify me and I’ll try to fix it soon.

Sample 24-hour AS-1 seismograph screen display (reduced size), WLIN station. Each line contains 1 hour of data. The date is shown in blue letters just above the 00 hour (UTC) line. The time of the last download (HR:MN:SS; UTC) is shown in the lower left hand corner.
