Friday, September 8, I was escorted to Kawachinagano to visit a gentleman who raises gourds for hobby. He provided me with the gourds in this picture. I only want about half of each gourd to make one sculpture. I will have to cut them either just before the firing or after. I know gourds shrink about 20 percent when they are fired. I will have to take this into account when I build the remaining sculpture parts. The long gourd in the foreground grows as long as 6 feet. |
