As you might guess I am working on several objects concurrently. So far I have made several bent wood cones and bamboo parts. Behind the coffee cup is a stack of bamboo branches I brought from the bamboo cutting site. At this point I am working with scavaged bits of wood, bamboo and materials I purchased at the homecenter. Tomorrow I will go hunting for Japanese gourds. It has always been my intention to charcoal gourds on this trip. The blue object in the photo is a dry gourd. I have been told that you must use fresh gourds for the charcoal process. Dry gourds turn to dust when they are fired. Everything shrinks when it is charcoaled. I have to take this into account when I construct objects.
