About the Campus Cadgers of Purdue University

How we started

We, the Campus Cadgers, are dedicated to the spread of free food, and free stuff at Purdue University. The definition of cadge is given below. This group was started by several motivated (i.e. poor) grad students as a way to share the knowledge of free food to other poor grad students. In January, 2006, Jeff Brateman started a free food wiki for anyone to post to. The response was great. Before long, most of the ECE department had heard of the website.

By February, Josh Dillon had written an awesome script to scan the wiki for changes, and send an email out those who so requested. Now, when someone added an event, everyone would know within the hour. Immediately following these initial events, discussions were had on how to spread the website, as more postings from around campus were needed. Grad students, by their very nature, didn't leave their side of campus much.
