Work weekend at Chauncey Cooperative
Chauncey Cooperative was founded in 1937 and is the longest running men's cooperative at Purdue. This long span of time has allowed Chauncey to firmly establish itself within the community and develop a rich heritage that focuses on academics, brotherhood, and cooperation. The house was built in the 1890s and has a capacity of twenty-two men. There are seven rooms in the house, which results in between two and four men per room. House duties, like cleaning and cooking, are distributed between the members of the house. This combined with our non for profit status results in a very economical and practical living arrangement compared to dorm or fraternity living.
What is Chauncey?
Chauncey Cooperative is an individually owned, self-governed, non-profit organization that is part of an internal organization with Purdue that is known as the Purdue Cooperative Council. Chauncey places the responsibilities of maintaining the house on all the members of the House. These responsibilities include meal preps, clean-ups, house jobs, and house hours throughout the semester. The house provides a total of 10 meals per week.
House bills are $305 per month, four months per semester, along with a social fee of $100 per semester. The $1220 per semester covers all house meals, utilities, washer and dryer service, and other food items. All social events are covered by the social fee that is due at the beginning of each semester.
Academics
Academics are held with the utmost importance at Chauncey. As students, the main reason we are here at Purdue is to obtain an education and Chauncey has an excellent atmosphere for learning. Study hours are set to allow for quiet studying throughout the week. Chauncey has members with various majors allowing for a large background of knowledge if you have a question about a class.
