"Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears - it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear."

- Oliver Sacks

"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent."
- Victor Hugo

"Without music, life would be an error."

- Friedrich Nietzsche

Listening

I commonly listen to Rock, Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B, Pop, Alternative, Punk, Acoustic, and more. I follow the charts regularly due to my DJing but also enjoy discovering talented up-and-coming artists who are on the rise. I love making mixes for people and being the first person to know about a hit song or artist, so if your music library's feeling boring just let me know!

DJing

I took up DJing towards the end of high school career due to encouragement from my friends and family. It's a whole lot of fun. I've DJ'd for birthday parties, high school dances, and countless dance parties (including one where we ended up with almost 150 kids in one basement room). I spin mostly hip-hop, pop, and a little techno, and am looking to learn turntablism in the near future.

Music Production, Band Managing, & Repping

CBus Records

During my senior year of high school, I was bored... So I decided to start my own record label. I was already managing one of my friend's bands, so it wasn't hard to get a couple more acts under my wing. I ended up managing and recording a pop/rock band, an acoustic/folk act, and a hip-hop producer. I executive produced and marketed a 14-track mixtape which sold hundreds of copies. Although the record company hasn't seen much action since high school, I still enjoy recording tracks for myself and for friends. I'm also a representative for Aware Records (John Mayer, Five for Fighting, etc.), spreading music from up-and-coming artists.

Makin' Music

I play the piano and trumpet, dabble in guitar, and am teaching myself how to play the drums. I’ve always been a huge fan of mashups and creative remixes, and you can hear some of my mashups and original song ideas at http://www.reverbnation.com/austinchen.
