Hyunyi Cho is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Purdue University. She also holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Youth Development and Agricultural Education at Purdue. Her current research focuses on health risk communication. Specific research areas include health risk message effects on diverse audiences, media effects on health/risk related beliefs and behaviors, and theoretical and methodological issues in the development and evaluation of health communication campaigns. Her research has been published in both communication and public health journals, and received support from the NCI and the USDA. Her dissertation received the Top Dissertation Award given jointly by the Health Communication Divisions of the International Communication Association and the National Communication Association, and her student's thesis won the Top Thesis Award given by the same organizations. Areas of teaching include persuasion, media effect, risk communication, campaigns, and strategic communications. She has served on health communication expert panels organized by federal government agencies (CDC, NIAAA). She received her Ph.D. in mass media from Michigan State University.
