About Us

Circle K is a nonprofit collegiate community service organization that is a member of the Kiwanis family. It began as a fraternal organization on the campus of Washington State University in 1936. Some of the local Kiwanis members sponsored the 'Circle K House' as a means to allow male college students to live in a free/low cost enviroment in exchange for participation in community service. In 1947, 'Circle K' became a fully-fledged service organization. By 1955, Circle K had spread across 147 campuses in the United States It was in that same year that Circle K became an organization officially recognized by Kiwanis International. A couple years later, the Purdue University Circle K club was founded on March 9th, 1973. The Circle K organization is now officially called Circle K International and spans across 17 total nations!

What is the Kiwanis family?

The main Kiwanis family consists of Kiwanis International, Aktion Club, Circle K International, Key Club International, Builders Club, and K-Kids. Kiwanis International is an adult community service organziation that spans over 30 nations and was founded in 1915 in Detroit, MI. Just as parents watch over their family, Kiwanis faciliates and advises the clubs in its family. Aktion Club was created for those with disabilities and spans across seven nations. Circle K is geared for college students and has its own international, district (state) and club level governments. Key Club is extremely similar to Circle K in hierachy. However, it is geared for high school students instead. Builders Club is run by Kiwanis members and was created for middle school students. K-Kids is also run by Kiwanis members and as expected, was meant for elementary school students. There is a Kiwanis family club for nearly every person out there!
