Today we left the Abbey Lodge Hotel and ventured into Edinburgh.
I would highly recommend getting a decent map of the city before driving into it as we were getting quite confused by the way the city was laid out.
Our destination was the Prince's Street Garden, which has a car park and is within a block of the main downtown area. We finally found it and spent some time strolling in the garden. It was still a little early for some of the flowers, but quite nice. Then we walked along the main street. There are enough shops for a full day's browsing, and an underground shopping mall at the far end.
We ate at the Burger King on Prince's Street, and shortly afterward there happened to be a band of Highland Pipers in full regalia marching down the street.
After a full day's walking around Edinburgh, we decided to head south as there was still more country to be seen with only two days left. We headed south on the A68 and landed in Scotch Corner, just south of Newcastle. There we found a Travelodge which was not full up. We ate at the adjacent Little Chef restaurant.
