Today we drove across the Menai bridge to the island of Anglesey. On this island our main interest was the many ancient burial sites. But first we stopped in the town of Llanfair PG for lunch and to take a few photos. In the Tafarn ty Gwyn, we were entertained by a talkative local gent who attempted to teach us some Welsh.
Though the island is small, it is best to have handy the Landranger 114 map to find your way around. Places we visited: Bryn Celli Ddu, Bodowyr, Caer Leb, the Penrhos Feilw pair of standing stones, and South Stack lighthouse. We tried to find the Roman fort in Holyhead, but failed to find it this time. We had dinner again at the Tafarn ty Gwyn and stayed at a nearby B&B in LLanddaniel Fab named Benlas, which I highly recommend.
Again I cannot overemphasize the need for a decent map when exploring Anglesey. Aside from the one main road running east-west (the A5), and aside from the few small towns, this island is totally rural and the side roads are generally not marked. Even with a map, you are bound to take a wrong turn, but without one you may not find the sites you're looking for and instead may find yourself lost.
