Star Trek aired on the NBC television network. First telecast was Thursday, Sept. 8, 1966 at 7:30 PM Central Time. Last telecast was Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1969 at 6:30 PM Central Time. Very soon after the series was dropped from the network, it began showing in syndication on independent stations. It has been in syndication ever since!

The Animated Series was created by Filmation Associates with Gene Roddenberry as executive consultant and Dorothy Fontana as associate producer and story editor. Many of the stories were written by the same writers who wrote episodes for the original series. Voices for Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, and Chapel were provided by the same actors who played those roles in the original series. Although Walter Koenig wrote one of the episodes, his character Chekov did not appear in the animated series.
The Animated Series aired on the NBC network on Saturday mornings from 1973 to 1975 and can still be seen in syndication occasionally during morning or afternoon on weekends.

Star Trek: The Next Generation was not shown through a national TV network. In order to avoid the problems that the original series had (cancellations due to ratings), Paramount elected to distribute the series through syndication.
Regular airtimes were 6:00 PM Saturdays, with a repeat of the same show on the next day, Sunday, at 10:30 PM during the first season and at 8:00 PM during the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons. During the seventh season, airtime was switched to Sundays.
The original purpose of this list was to document all the episodes of Star Trek. Much of what you see here was created long before TNG ever existed. In those days we could only wish that new Star Trek episodes would come out. Miraculously, they did. Now we have a long legacy of Star Trek, from TOS through the movies and up to the conclusion of TNG series. I don't think any Star Trek fan ever hoped for as much, and now we have more than we ever dreamed of having. And it is enough to satisfy me as well.
Since the passing of Gene Roddenberry and the conclusion of TNG, I feel as though the purpose of this document is complete. Although two new Star Trek related shows, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, have come, I do not feel that they are appropriate for listing here as they are (in my mind) totally separate shows and deserve their own chronology elsewhere.
If you are a loyal fan of those two shows and keep track of the episodes and dates, etc, may I suggest that you start a separate chronology of your own for those shows?
Many people have written inquiring how Stardates work and how they correlate to Earth time. Unfortunately there is not a good way to correlate between stardates and regular dates. Various ways have been created through the years, most notably the system used by FASA's role-playing games, but they still can't be used on the actual dates given in the Star Trek series. The only "real" definition was given by Gene Roddenberry as quoted in "The Making of Star Trek" © 1968 by Stephen E. Whitfield/Del Rey books. His explanation follows:
"The time system adjusts for shifts in relative time which occur due to the vessel's speed and space warp capability. It has little relationship to Earth time as we know it. One hour aboard the Enterprise at different times may equal as little as three Earth hours. The star date specified in the log entry must be computed against the speed of the vessel, the space warp, and its position within our galaxy, in order to give a meaningful reading."
Though this explanation was made up, I think Gene was closer to the mark than he ever imagined. If the ship is going at warp speed, the time aboard the ship is irrelevant compared to a stationary planet or star base. I'd suspect that the ship's computer could handle the necessary conversions, since all courses plotted in are handled by the computer.
Mark Holtz, webmaster of the former Deep Space Franchise website has the following observation in his Star Trek List of Lists
"After the random stardates in the original "Star Trek", the powers that be decided on a more logical way to determine a stardate. Thus, the following came about.
EXAMPLE: "Captains Log: Stardate 45076.3"
The "4" represents that the series takes place in the 24th century. The "5" represents the season number of TNG without exception. The "076" represents the portion of a season that advances during TNG. The ".3" represents a portion of a day thereof."
A very interesting technical discussion on Stardates is available, which hopes to pull the pieces together to make a correlation that works.
