So....what's postmodern ekphrasis? Is that where the picture's been taken down from the wall and deconstructed to the point of disintegration? Has the urn been smashed into smithereens and then put back together with Krazy Glue? Perhaps. But new works of art are being created, by new artists whose awareness of phantasy and desire for fantasy has propelled visual and textual culture into the 21st century. The World Wide Web, in case you hadn't yet figured it out! And it is on this stage that classical ekphrasis is perhaps realizing the promises it has offered rhetoric for the past 25 centuries.
