PUCC Indoor
League Spring ‘08 - Week 7 Review
Two
interesting games... one historic moment this past weekend. Virtual Reality continue their uphill climb in the points table, while T9
taste success for the first time.
‘Vijay’ Shines in
Victory and Defeat
In
what turned out to be the battle of Vijays, with
Vijay Kumar of VR and Vijay P of CB XI scoring 41 apiece, displaying some power
hitting. Whereas Venkat ably supported the former
with a patient 23, the latter battled alone. The wily Appu
‘bamboozled’ four batsmen into going after his deliveries (which almost touch
the ceiling before descending down on the waiting batsmen). The match deserves
special mention as a statistically significant event, producing 3 free-hits, 5
run-outs and 2 stumpings. Late bloomers VR have
typically upped the ante and climbed to a strong 16 points with this victory.
CBXI looked to be heading to a fight with Dhippadi Dheepang for the 6th position, which still is a possibility
despite the latter’s upset loss to T9 today.
Virtual
Reality Vs Club Presidents XI
T9
upset the Dheepangs
T9
finally managed to solve a piece of jigsaw puzzle that is cricket. They
defeated Dheepadi Dheepang
to march towards their first ever win as a team at Purdue. T9 posted a
competitive score of 78 after being 36 in 10 overs.
They have their captain Shaun and Abhinav to thank
for this. Deepang got themselves into a hole with
some unintelligent cricket. Onkar made some runs, and
so did Deepak Pandey. However, tight lines from Sparsh, and Abhinav kept a lid on
the scoring rate. However, in a must win game, and while chasing a large total,
cricketing logic was thrown out of the window when in-form batsman Samarth came
too late in the batting order for him to make any impact. He almost pulled it
off in the last over when they needed 6 off 3, he
struck one straight back but a bit too high to bounce back off the ceiling,
much to the relief of T9.
