Team Virtual Reality - Stars seem to align the right way with Ashwin's return
Always
poor starters this season has been no different. Currently, with a 2-2 win-loss
record Virtual Reality are placed 6th in the league standings. It is to be
noted that their two losses have come against arguably the two best sides in
the tournament so far, the 'Underdogs and Speedsters. With their schedule set
to become a little easier this team is poised to make a run to the playoffs.
Furthermore,
Virtual Reality has had to endure severe growing pangs this season. The
captain, Mummoorthy, has introduced several young
guns like Vijay Kumar, Selva and Kripa
into the side this season to offset the absence of some seasoned Armory pros
like Yagna, Karthik, Ashwin and Sreeram. With Ashwin checking back, the team gets back a good player and
more importantly the rabble rouser and live wire who lights a fire under this
team like no other. With Yagna and Karthik's graduation, the team lost two of their best
fielders and importantly two very irritating batsmen. Irritating batsmen are
those people that never scare the opposition but can just stay at the crease
and rotate strike and prevent a breakthrough. Players from last season will
remember Yagna's memorable last over in the Finals of
last season's indoor league.
Kaushik is
currently in the form of his life and has played a stellar role for Virtual
Reality with the bat. It might not be far from the truth to say he has single
handedly carried this team through their first three games. Moreover, our
sources indicate that Mummoorthy is back to full
fitness after suffering a side strain through the early parts of this season. Mummoorthy has not bowled his full quota in most games thus
far and has preferred to use his spinners as the third and fourth bowlers
following Jaggu and Kaushik.
Expect him to come back with a bang and bowl with passion.
While
much has been said about Ashwin, Mumoorthy
and Kaushik none can forget the contributions of
their unsung heroes. First on this list is their opening bowler Jaggu, who is also a handy bat and can score runs quickly.
Second is Aparajithan aka Appu
Raja, the strategist and opening batsman from PUCC's
regular season who seems to do well when the cards are down and the team needs
a boost. Lastly there is Bharath who inspired the
rest of this team with an assault like no other in last year's Indoor league
finals. Finally in the ranks of the new additions, Selva
seems like a useful left arm orthodox spinner while Vijay Kumar is no dummy
with the bat and a tough but erratic right arm leg spinner. It remains to be
seen how these two guys along with Kripa, another leg
spinner, shape up through the season.
I
fully expect Virtual Reality get into the playoffs. Come playoffs this team is
deadly dangerous and can out think and out fox their opposition any day.
