Mary - 9/25, STEW 320 @ 7 PM

Greetings,

As another week of this semester comes to a close, it is at times important to reflect upon what is truly important in our lives. As we attempt to do this, we can be greatful that we also have many models of such contemplation to look up to, including, of course, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. We are called to ponder the Word of God in our hearts, just as the Blessed Virgin did in the Gospel of St. Luke 2:19.

Of course, as we think of these things, we might also think of the Blessed Virgin and the role she plays in both our lives and in our Church. This Friday (Sept. 25), we will gather in Stew 320 from 7 PM - 8:30 PM to discuss the many different Church teachings involving Mary, including the Immaculate Conception, Virginal Birth, and the Assumption. We hope to present these teachings in a manner to help remove any confusion that some might have. We will also take a look at the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin throughout the world today and what the Church thinks about such things.

We hope to see you there!

God bless,
David

Call Out - Friday (9/11)

Greetings,

The Catholic Truth League will be meeting this Friday (9/11) at 7 PM in Stewart Center, Room 202. We will be kicking off this new semester by talking about the Papacy and Church Authority. We will cover such issues as the Church Hierarchy, Papal Infallibility, and where the Church recieves her authority.

For those who are still wondering exactly what CTL does, we meet on a weekly basis to study Catholic apologetics. Through these weekly meetings, we hope that we all might come to better know our faith and be prepared to defend it. As the Scriptures say, that we might "always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope" (1 Peter 3:15).

After the meeting at 8:30 PM, we will head to the basement of St. Tom's for a Game Night. Feel free to bring any games that you enjoy and would like to play. Pizza and drinks will be provided!

In Christ our Lord,
David

Sola Scriptura & Caroling

We've got a jam packed CTL Friday for Grand Prix Week! We will be following up our Christmas Caroling with Easter Caroling at retirement centers before today's meeting. We will be meeting at St. Tom's in the Gathering Space at 5:50 PM to drive out to local retirement centers to sing the good news of Christ's resurrection! If you are able to drive, please bring your car. Parking is available in the St. Tom's lot.

Afterwards, we will be heading over to STEW 320 for our usual CTL Meeting, hopefully around 7 PM. We may delay the meeting a few minutes due to the caroling. This meeting's topic will be Sola Scriptura, or the Bible alone. This is in contrast to the Catholic belief that revelation comes both from Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. It is a common topic of discussion between Protestants and Catholics.

Following the discussion, near 8:20 PM, we will be holding elections for the coming year. We will be electing positions required by Purdue of all Student Organizations, but welcome all members to assist in leadership roles at the meetings. Please prayerful discern giving of your time and talent as a CTL leader.

In the resurrected Christ,
Bernie and David

Catholics in the Public Forum

Christ has risen, Alleluia! Greetings all and happy Easter.

We will be meeting this Friday (4/17) in Stewart 320 from 7 PM until 8:30 PM.

As we enter into this Easter season, in which we celebrate Christ rising from the dead and attempt to bring Christ's light into the world through our own lives. It seems appropriate to come together and discuss what our role as Catholics is in this world of increasing secularization.

Therefore, we will be discussing Catholics in the public forum looking at controversial issues facing the Church today, such as the Notre Dame "scandal" and the position taken by prominent Catholic politicians, looking at the worldwide treatment of religion. As mentioned, we will look into how we ought to witness to our faith in this world. Come ready to discuss.

Perhaps, reflect on the following beforehand:
-Is it the role of government to legislate morality?
-What part of our own faith should remain in the private sphere, and what in the public?
-How should we enter into dialog with those who disagree with our faith?

In the glory of our resurrected Lord,
Bernie and David
